Flour on the Sleeve

On a snowy New Year’s evening in an old family house, a learned son-in-law offers the gathered table half of a poem to finish. When the youngest daughter, carrying tea from the kitchen, accidentally marks his fresh ink with a floury sleeve, she answers him not with schooling but with what her hands already know, and the room fills with warm, unhurried laughter.
