The Child the River Brought

A reed basket drifts into a quiet fishing village at dawn, and the child inside grows into a young man whose skill and kindness win the trust of everyone along the water. When a proud lord upstream, troubled by envy, summons him to a test he cannot possibly pass, the young man simply waits for the mist to lift, and the lord discovers, in the stillness of the river, that greatness is something quietly recognized rather than claimed.
