The Little Plant and the Lonely Mountain
A small, unremarkable seed drifts up to a forgotten mountain and takes root in a crevice of grey stone. Asking nothing and striving for nothing, it offers the only things it has, a little shade, a little water held in its leaves, a few blossoms no bigger than a fingernail, and in doing so it gives the lonely peak back its company, discovering that beauty and belonging arrive quietly to those who simply give what is theirs to give.
Retold from The Book of Nature Myths, by Florence Holbrook.
