The Stranger in the Bronze

A gentle countryman walks to the city at dawn, buys a polished bronze disc he does not understand, and mistakes his own reflection for a traveling stranger, until a kind shopkeeper and a still water jar show him, without any laughter, that the unfamiliar face has been his own all along.
