This site is run by Somnus Rest, an independent project based in the United Kingdom. You can reach us at [email protected].

Listening

Our stories are free to enjoy for your own personal, non-commercial listening, on this site, on YouTube and in podcast apps.

Our work

Many of our stories are retold from old books that are in the public domain; others are new stories written for Somnus. The original books remain free for anyone to use. Our own retellings, recordings, music choices, artwork and this website are © 2026 Somnus. Please do not copy, re-upload, sell or redistribute them, or use them to train or test AI systems, without our written permission. Linking to our pages, programmes and episodes is always welcome.

How the stories are made

The stories are written with the help of AI tools, then shaped and checked by our small team. The narration is in the voice of Pete Carson, recreated with AI with his blessing, and checked by ear. The artwork is made with AI image tools.

Sleep and safety

Somnus Rest is gentle entertainment, not a medical treatment, and nothing on the site is medical advice. If you have ongoing trouble sleeping, please talk to your GP or visit the NHS guidance on insomnia. Our stories are designed to make you drowsy: never listen while driving, operating machinery, or doing anything that needs your full attention.

Other services

We link to, and embed videos from, services we do not control, including YouTube, Spotify and Apple Podcasts. Your use of those services is governed by their own terms.

Availability

We aim to keep the site and our episodes available, but we may change, pause or remove any part of them at any time, and we cannot promise the site will always be free of errors or interruptions.

Liability

We provide the site and our stories as they are. As far as the law allows, we are not liable for any loss arising from your use of them. Nothing in these terms limits any liability that cannot be limited by law, or affects your statutory rights.

The law that applies

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and its courts will have jurisdiction over any dispute.

We may update these terms from time to time. The date at the top shows when they last changed.
